The first two images were taken in Santiago de Campostela, Galicia – the very northwest of Spain. They were shot from the veranda of the huge Hospital de los Reyes Católicos, where pilgrims have traveled for ten centuries from across Europe to see what they believe to be the remains of St. James (Sant Iago) in the Cathedral. We were looking down at the street below just before siesta ended. The silence gave no indication of the hundreds of merchants, tourists, and locals who would fill the plaza behind us in the hours to come.
